Cultivating a sense of community and a love for Islam
"And hold firmly together to the rope of Allah and do not be divided. Remember Allah's favour upon you when you were enemies, then He united your hearts, so you—by His grace—became brothers. And you were at the brink of a fiery pit and He saved you from it. This is how Allah makes His revelations clear to you, so that you may be ˹rightly˺ guided."
— Quran 3:103Our main goal is to get the Muslims of Lexington to love Islam. Often times, our relationship with Islam is restricted by a lack of knowledge or a disconnect between those who study the deen for a living and those who are still learning.
Since its inception, Siraat Lex has hosted over 10 distinct lecturers and speakers, many of whom have spent most of their lives studying Islam in a formal institution. Our members have the opportunity to learn from them and pick their brains on topics that they have never gotten the chance to ask before.
Siraat Lex is intentionally designed as a moving organization. Its purpose is to unite people that may be separated by the mosque of choice, age, or occupation.
The Muslim community of Lexington is rapidly growing. For the last ten years, we have seen increasing number of congregants for daily prayers, jummah, and taraweeh prayer. As we grow, the need for interconnectivity amongst Muslims in an Islamic setting is more needed than ever. How can a child, college, or working individual cultivate a relationship with the Mosque, while learning more about Islam?
Siraat Lex attempts to answer this question by providing an environment filled with comrodory, food, and vibes. At the same time, providing an opportunity to hear from scholars and build real relationships as a teacher and student.
About the Initiative
Our newest initiative is Sisters Suhbah, a post graduate group that meets once per month. Often times, Muslims that graduate from university find themselves busy with further education, parenthood, employment, and more. This unfortunately results in isolation from peers and a disruptions in social life.
Sisters Suhbah attempts to subvert this phenomenon by providing a space where post-graduate sisters can convene and grow as Muslims. Examples of previous events hosted under this new initiative are:
Siraat Lex relies 100% on the generosity of its sustainers to operate and host events for the community. Contributions allow us to bring in classically trained scholars and speakers from all over the United States. They enable us to provide food and cultivate a welcoming environment for community members of all ages and gender.
Consider becoming a sustainer and help us serve the community of Lexington.
Siraat Lex Inc is a 501(c)(3) federal tax exempt non-profit organization. All contributions strictly go towards events and improvements for the organization. There are no individual benefactors or employees at Siraat.
